New movie podcast: Superheroes Every Day!

I know, I spent seven years writing more than 1,000 blog posts about Dark Shadows, but what have I done for vampire media lately?

Well, here’s one answer: on my new Superheroes Every Day podcast, I’ve got Dark Shadows audio producer Joe Lidster to talk about the 2021 vampire superhero blood-soaked blockbuster, Morbius!

In each episode of the podcast, I invite a guest to join me on a Dark Shadows Every Day-style journey through a pivotal moment in superhero movie history, making wisecracks and discovering insights about how blockbuster movies work (or don’t). It’s funny and fast-paced, and if you like my writing on this blog, then this is your opportunity to get more of it, on a different subject.

To bridge that gap, here’s Act 1 of the Morbius episode with Joe Lidster!

You can also find the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, YouTube, Overcast, Audible, Stitcher and wherever you get your podcasts.

Episode 1117: Meanwhile, Again

“When I saw your grave in 1970, I knew I had to find a way.”

Meanwhile, a hundred and thirty years in the future, another unfathomable time dilemma snakes its way across the room, fizzing and throwing sparks. Time flies, they say, and Barnabas Collins is a frequent flyer.

The few survivors are scattered, broken, unable to heal. His best friend is missing, possibly kidnapped by ghosts or eaten by zombies, or maybe she’s the patsy in one of those lunatic time-travel conspiracies where people load up a sacred altar with books and boxes and instructions and failure and send it all into the future, where it catches fire and explodes into fragments, accomplishing nothing. He isn’t sure. So he throws some sticks on the table, closes his eyes, and gives the situation a good hard think. It’s called crisis management.

DS Every Day on “Tune In Tomorrow” podcast

Dark Shadows Every Day is being featured on tonight’s episode of the soap podcast “Tune in Tomorrow”! The show is hosted by my awesome new friend Richard Simms, executive editor of Soaps In Depth magazine. It’s a whole hour of Dark Shadows talk, including the Dream Curse, humane recap techniques, the casual non-science of Parallel Time, and why every soap opera has elves.

The show airs tonight starting at 7pm Eastern, and then archived for eternity. And check out the other episodes — it’s a really fun and thoughtful discussion of soap operas, and the strange culture that we’ve built around these everlasting stories.
